Composition Experience

1      |      "Fly High, Butterfly", written for ANZCA Music Examinations (2025)

Published in the ANZCA Associate Performer Diploma (Classical Pianoforte) 2025-2027 Syllabus, "Fly High, Butterfly" tells the story of a butterfly growing up, as a metaphor for growth and life. It is a musical interpretation of the four stages of a butterfly’s life cycle - the egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly. Drawing inspiration from dance improvisation, this piece reminds us to appreciate the transient beauty of growing up and recognise the magic of life, just as we adore butterflies. An audio recording is available here, and a downloadable PDF score can be purchased here.

2      |      "Spirals", written for Monash Percussion Studio (2025)

Inspired by physical movement, Spirals, written for marimba, vibraphone and harp, explores what happens when musicians extrapolate physical gestures embodied within their principal instruments and apply them to another instrument. Using physical movement implied within “spiral” as impetus for sonic outcomes, Spirals demonstrates the intertwined relationship between sound and movement. Through extensive workshopping with percussionists from the Monash Percussion StudioSpirals challenges performers to interact with an instrument beyond their own, expanding their understanding of different instruments in a fun and hands-on way. Spirals brings one on a journey of spiralling from one instrument to another,, to spiralling cyclical harmonic progressions and melodic contours. Spirals premiered at Spirals by Monash Percussion Studio in September 2025.

3      |      "Falling into place", written for Interwoven (2025)

Inspired by how snow globes encapsulate memories, Falling into place, written for alto saxophone and harp, immortalises one’s experience of playing music with friends in uni. A fleeting yet cherished moment that one holds on to, as one chapter draws to a close and another begins. Falling into place premiered at Interwoven in November 2025.

4      |      "In Fragments", written for Monash Law String Orchestra (2025)

Inspired by what it means to say goodbye, In Fragments explores how at the end of a journey, all we are left with are in fragments of memories. It explores the deeply intertwined relationship between sound and movement, asking how far the derivative cycle of interchanging between music and dance can go. It is a scoring of a dance film, using choreography as notation by translating visual movement into music. Beyond scoring movement that unfolds over time, snapshots of the film are also interspersed at various points, exploring how still choreographic images can be represented musically. In Fragments premiered at A Celebration of Female Composers by the Monash Law String Orchestra in October 2025.

5      |      "Sculptures of Movement, written for International Women's Day Lunchtime Concert (2025)

Sculptures of Movement is a new composition written for B-flat clarinet and harp, and extensively workshopepd with Nicole Canham. It explores the interdependency between sound and movement. It is inspired by sculptor Agathon Léonard’s artwork - The Scarf Dance (Le Jeu de l’Écharpe) - comprising fifteen porcelain women figures dancing in flowing dresses, each in a different dance pose, and uses choreography to shape musical material. Written specially for, and premiered at the International Women's Day Lunchtime Concert at Monash University in March 2025, the fiery and rhythmic character of Sculptures of Movement celebrates the power of women in music.
