Interwoven
Interwoven is a self-initiated project - an hour-long music concert that explores the power of friendship and human connection in making music. Featuring Australian premieres by 9 emerging composers, encompassing a wide range of artistic styles and compositional processes, Interwoven highlights the deeply intertwined, highly-collaborative relationship between composers and performers.
Interwoven was curated to provide a platform for composers and performers to exchange ideas through workshopping and rehearsing new music, in turn encouraging the creation of new Australian music and providing a springboard for further collaborations.
It featured new music by composers Alex Aidt, Inoke Tonga, Isaac Chua, Maximillian Topor, Samarah Braid, Su Min Lee, Susannah Giddy, Taiyo Rigby and Walter Cheung, workshopped and performed with instrumentalists from the School of Music.

"Falling into place" - premiered at Interwoven
For alto saxophone and harp
Composed by Su Min Lee
Performed by Sullivan Tung and Su Min Lee
Inspired by how snow globes encapsulate memories, “Falling into place”, written for Sullivan Tung on alto saxophone and Su Min Lee on harp, immortalises one’s experience of playing music with friends in uni. A fleeting yet cherished moment that one holds on to, as one chapter draws to a close and another begins. It begins with a sweet musical theme that captures the delicateness of clinging to a fleeting memory, before the snow globe is turned upside down in a flurry of chaos, causing snow to fall and hit against the reflective glass surfaces of the globe. Eventually, the music settles into a nostalgic theme that reflects the warmth of playing music together with friends, as one appreciates the present while the snow falls into place.
Through extensive workshopping, this piece seeks to reflect both musicians’ musical identities while exploring the vast sonic possibilities of combining their instruments. It has been a really fun and fulfilling journey collaborating on this piece!
